Every day, our teachers live out their ‘calling’ to be educators in classrooms across LORDS. The example they follow is Jesus, who was the ultimate servant leader and teacher.

Jesus came to serve, not to be served. In John 13:12-17, we see the way Jesus humbled himself to serve the disciples and teach a very important lesson.

When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. 13 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. 

Jesus demonstrated the keys to being a good teacher:

He performed a selfless act – washing feet was the lowest and dirtiest task a servant had to do.

He demonstrated a concept by doing – he illustrated the concept by an act of service.

He made an impact – he chose to act in an unexpected way to demonstrate his point.

After performing the act (getting their attention), he asked a question – teachers activate learning by asking questions.

He encouraged them to follow his example – he called them to action.

He gave the key message of his illustration – he described true service.

He communicated the reward, saying, ‘You will be rewarded if you do this.'

Note that the reward is secondary to the act. The reward is based on acting with the right purpose and the right heart.

Prayer:

We pray for a heart of service. Help us to see the needs of those around us and to respond with generosity and compassion. May we be willing to serve others selflessly, following your example of love and kindness.

New Principal Visit

We welcomed Mr Craig Brown to our school on Wednesday, 25th March, for his first official visit to LORDS. Craig shared a very meaningful devotion with all of the staff to begin the day. He toured the school and met staff and students along the way. 

Stuart Halsall, our Business Manager, took him on a tour of the Building site, and he met with key leaders throughout the day. Craig stayed on in the evening to join our Sunset Tour for families considering enrolling their child into LORDS for Year 7 in 2027. We will be arranging further visits to LORDS during Term 2. Craig is keen to meet with students and parents as part of these visits. It is an exciting time for LORDS as we transition to our new Principal, ready for Semester 2.

Farewell to Staff

This week, we said goodbye to Donna Sanders, who has been teaching for a Term in the Secondary.  She has been a fantastic addition to our staff this term, taking Maths and Science classes while Mr McGee was on LSL.  We wish her all the best, and I am sure it won’t be long before we see her at LORDS again, as she has applied to be a relief teacher when the need arises.

Our Pastor, Chaplain, and Counsellor offer spiritual and emotional support to students across the school. 

Our Tuckshop staff make sure there is great food on offer to students and staff. 

Our Co-Curricular Coordinators for Kokoda, Netball, and Futsal, as well as our Instrumental Music teachers, make sure there are wonderful opportunities for students to develop their talents. 

Together, our staff is helping our students to become Great Humans!

Thanks to the Sport Coordinators for their hard work to be successful in Sporting Schools grant applications and the excellent way they plan and organise so many sporting events, including the Cross Country and Colour Run.

Thanks to the Arts Faculty for their time and energy in running Musical rehearsals and planning for the upcoming Musical performances. Tickets are now on sale. Looking forward to seeing a full house for each performance.

Thank you to our FOLS group who put on the Movie Night. It was an excellent community event. We appreciate the support of parents in FOLS, giving their time voluntarily to support the school.

Giving Thanks for the Blessings of the Term and the Hope of Easter

As we come to the close of another full and purposeful term, we take a moment to pause and reflect with gratitude. Our hope is that, through life in community, seeds are planted — and, with God’s help, nurtured into something strong, meaningful, and lasting. Our Easter Worship focused on growth, what it means to flourish in life, and how we are renewed and recreated through the Easter story.

Throughout the term, we have witnessed growth in learning, strength in relationships, and a commitment to service across our classrooms, staff teams, and wider community. Whether through academic effort, creative expression, sporting achievements, or quiet acts of kindness, our students and staff have demonstrated perseverance, compassion, and dedication. These moments — both large and small — are blessings worth acknowledging and celebrating.

At assembly last week, we reflected on what it means to be Adventurous. Being adventurous doesn’t always involve something dramatic or risky. More often, it looks like:

• Having the courage to try
• Choosing growth over comfort
• Stepping forward, even when the outcome isn’t guaranteed

Throughout the term, we have seen this spirit of adventure lived out in many ways:

• Academic adventure, as students engaged seriously with assessment tasks, stretched themselves with new learning, and persevered when work felt challenging
• Courage on the sporting field, where students committed to training, teamwork, and competition — developing resilience, discipline, and respect
• Creative and cultural involvement, particularly through rehearsals and responsibilities in our school musical and other cultural activities, where dedication, collaboration, and vulnerability have been joyfully on display

Each day, many within our community demonstrate adventure simply by showing up — ready to learn, to try again, and to grow.

As we enter the Easter season, our reflections deepen. Easter reminds us that new life often follows challenge, and that hope is born through faith, courage, and love. At the heart of Easter is the assurance that even in times of uncertainty or weariness, God is at work — renewing, restoring, and guiding us forward.

We give thanks for our students, who continue to learn and grow; for our staff, whose care and commitment shape lives each day; and for our families, whose support and partnership strengthen our community. We are grateful for the opportunities we have to learn together, to support one another, and to walk forward with purpose.

As we move into the break, may this Easter season be a time of rest and renewal — a chance to reconnect with loved ones, reflect on the blessings we have received, and return refreshed and ready for the term ahead.

5 STAR HOSPITALITY 

Recently, our Year 11 Hospitality students enjoyed an excursion to the Imperial Hotel Gold Coast. This valuable industry experience provided students with a real-world insight into the dynamic and diverse hospitality sector. 

During their visit, students participated in a guided tour of the hotel, gaining a behind-the-scenes look at its operations. They also had the opportunity to hear from a range of staff members, who shared their career journeys and explained the variety of roles within the hotel. This gave students a deeper understanding of the many pathways available within the hospitality industry. 

A highlight of the day was the High Tea experience. Students were impressed by the beautiful presentation and delicious flavours, which sparked creativity and inspiration for their own upcoming task. In Week 5 next term, students will apply what they have learned as they plan and prepare a High Tea for staff as part of Staff Wellbeing Week. 

The excursion was a fantastic learning opportunity for students in their understanding of hospitality operations as they begin to consider future study and career pathways.

This term, our Year 11 and 12 Industrial Technology Skills students have been hard at work developing their practical skills through hands-on projects.

Year 11 students have been constructing stools as they prepare for their upcoming farmhouse bench project. Along the way, they’ve been learning to interpret design drawings, cut materials to size, and safely use tools such as the bandsaw, Kreg jig, and mortiser to shape timber and create strong joins. Each student then chose their own finish, adding a personal touch to their final product.

Meanwhile, our Year 12 students have taken on the challenge of building full-size letterboxes in preparation for their next project—a dog house. Working to design drawings and meeting Australia Post specifications, this project has pushed students to think carefully about scale, accuracy, and construction techniques. 

It’s been fantastic to see the skill development, problem-solving, and craftsmanship on display across both year levels! 

LORDS students are proudly representing our school in this year’s Gold Coast Debating competition. Round 1 saw our Intermediate team, comprising Year 8 and 10 students (Lara D, Annabelle F, Kris B, Chelsea M, and Shayla M), debate with conviction and skill. Their courage and commitment were clear to see, and although they were narrowly defeated, the team is already looking forward to speaking again in Round 2 next term. 

In Week 10, on Wednesday, 1st April, our Junior team (Jasman G, Yashasvi Y, Oliver L, and Laela B) will be taking on the topic: ‘Everyone should have to learn a foreign language.’ 

We wish our dedicated Year 7 speakers and their coach, Amritha R, the best of luck as they prepare for their upcoming debate.

QAGOMA ART EXHIBITION
It was a special moment to see Amelie de Vries’ incredible work officially on display, with Acting Principal Selina Kinne and former LORDS art teacher Clachere Beard joining her to celebrate this outstanding achievement. 

To witness Amelie’s artwork exhibited among the state’s most exceptional young artists is something truly inspiring. Opportunities like this don’t just happen — they are the result of dedication, creativity, and the support of passionate educators along the way.

Our Year 11 Legal Studies students recently stepped beyond the classroom and into the real world of the justice system with an excursion to the courts in Brisbane.

From observing criminal trials to seeing DNA evidence presented, students gained powerful firsthand insight into how the law operates in practice. They also witnessed the process of jury empanelment and heard defence lawyers advocate for their clients — bringing their studies to life in a meaningful and memorable way.

We are incredibly proud of the way our students conducted themselves throughout the day, showing maturity, professionalism, and a deep respect for the court and its processes.

An invaluable learning experience that will stay with them well beyond the classroom.

Celebrating Term 1

As we come to the end of Term 1, it is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on what has been a wonderful start to the year. Our students have been involved in a wide range of excursions, incursions, and special events that have brought learning to life beyond the classroom. These experiences not only deepen understanding but also create lasting memories and strengthen connections within our school community.

A particular highlight this term has been the incredible success of our Colour Run fundraiser. Thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of our students and families, we have raised an outstanding $21,000 towards our new tuckshop. This is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the strength and spirit of our community. We would like to thank all who contributed.

To celebrate this effort, tomorrow our top three fundraising students will have the exciting (and slightly messy!) opportunity to ‘slime’ three teachers during the lunch break. This promises to be a fun and memorable way to recognise their efforts, and we look forward to seeing plenty of smiles and laughter.

We are delighted to share the wonderful news with our community that Lacey Carlson and her partner, Josh, have welcomed a beautiful baby boy, Jack William Waugh, born on Sunday, 29th March. Mum and baby are home safe and well, and the family is enjoying this precious new chapter. We give thanks for this special gift and keep them in our thoughts and prayers as they settle into life with their little one.

Thank you to our staff, students, and families for your hard work, support, and commitment throughout the term. As we head into the Easter break, we are reminded of the deeper meaning of this season. Easter is a time of hope, renewal, and the promise of new life through the resurrection of Jesus. It invites us to pause, reflect, and be thankful for the grace and love that surrounds us. Wishing everyone a safe, restful, and joy-filled Easter break, and we look forward to all that Term 2 will bring.

Up, Up and Away! Year 6 Take Learning to New Heights!

There was a real buzz on the oval last week as our Year 6 students put their Design & Technology skills to the test — and the sky was full of colour, creativity and a whole lot of excitement!

After designing and constructing their very own kites, students headed outside to see if their ideas would really take flight. From bold shapes and bright patterns to clever structural designs, every kite told a story of problem-solving, perseverance, and imagination.

And the best part? Watching their creations lift into the air (and sometimes crash, tweak, and try again!) — real, hands-on learning at its best.

Moments like these show that learning isn’t just something that happens in the classroom… sometimes, it soars above it.

Year 12 and Year 1 buddies had a wonderful time celebrating Easter together.

With lots of energy, the buddies enjoyed egg-and-spoon races, plenty of fun at "Toss the Bunny," and excitement in the Easter egg hunt. It was a joyful afternoon of connection, teamwork, and shared memories.

CODE CAMP AT LORDS

There are 2 age groups to choose from. Please read the attached information flyer. These are great programs for our students to empower them with skills to be creators of the future!

In ideal conditions, our LORDS rugby boys were put to the test against strong, experienced opposition in a competitive and hard-fought tournament.

They opened in style with a 20–9 win over All Saints, showing great composure in attack and discipline in defence. Tries came from Tanin K, Frank O, Zac O and Mario B, with Frank O named Player of the Match for his standout performance.
A tough second match saw Miami’s experience shine through, handing LORDS a 40–5 loss, with Liam B earning Player of the Match honours for his efforts.

To their credit, the boys showed real resilience—fighting their way into the final for a rematch against Miami. This time, it was a completely different contest. Playing with intensity and belief, LORDS went toe-to-toe, heading into halftime locked at 12–12. Reuben A (2), Zac O and Nate G crossed for tries, with Nate also adding a conversion.

In the second half, Miami’s fitness and experience edged them ahead, securing a 29–12 victory. Nate G was named Player of the Match in the final.

While the result didn’t fall their way, the growth across the day was clear. The team showed character, determination and a real hunger to improve. Reuben A was a standout throughout, earning LORDS Player of the Day.

An invaluable experience that sets a strong foundation for the season ahead.

On Monday, 23rd March, the Year 12 Boys and Girls LORDS teams competed in the first Gala Day of the VETO Futsal League, delivering an outstanding performance across the board.

The Girls team had a dominant start, securing a 14–0 victory over Coomera Anglican College before continuing their strong form with a 5–1 win against Kings in their second match.

The Boys team also showcased excellent teamwork and skill throughout the day. Their impressive performances resulted in a remarkable total of 55 goals scored, with only 1 goal conceded. They recorded convincing wins against St Andrews, Kings, and Pimpama College.

It was a fantastic day for LORDS futsal, and we look forward to seeing both teams continue their winning form at the second Gala Day in May.

On the weekend, Year 11 student Aidan S played a key role in his team’s win in the Division 2 Open Cricket Final.

Helensvale finished the season undefeated, with Aidan taking 4/30 from 10 overs and scoring an unbeaten 69 in a run chase of 175 to secure their first Open Turf Premiership. He was named Player of the Final.

He also finished in the top 10 for runs and champion players, despite playing only four matches, and was a valuable member of the Division 1 team, which narrowly missed the final.

Congratulations to Aidan. We are very proud of you.

Congratulations to Hudson G on an incredible weekend of sport!

He achieved 1st in discus (PB), 2nd in javelin, and 5th in the 100m at the State Athletics — a fantastic result after an injury-affected season.

He was also selected for Paralympic tryouts, giving it his all. We now await academy selection (20 spots from 65 athletes) — fingers crossed!

Over the holidays, two of our very own LORDS staff members are taking on an incredible challenge—running all the way from Brisbane to Sydney as part of the Brisney Run! 

Scott Steinhardt will be hitting the pavement as part of the running team, pushing his limits every step of the way. Meanwhile, Chappy Andy Hellinga has played a huge role behind the scenes—helping organise the entire event, bringing the team together, and keeping everyone updated along the journey through social media. 

This is an amazing effort of endurance, teamwork, and commitment, and we’re so proud to see our staff stepping up for such a massive undertaking.

A little background from the organisers:

"EW Australia is a charity group that raises funds and awareness to assist orphans and vulnerable children in Southern Africa. To help promote this, a team of 8 people (including Chappy Andy and Mr Steinhardt) is running non-stop in a relay-based challenge from Brisbane to Sydney over the Easter Holidays. We are challenging ourselves, both physically and mentally, to bring positive change to the lives of children in Zambia. The primary reason for this event is to raise funds and awareness for the work of Eagles Wings. As a team, we have an event goal of raising $40k."

What a fantastic term it has been for our Strings and Concert Band students! We are incredibly proud of the commitment, enthusiasm, and growth shown by all students throughout the term. Tuckshop

Our Tuckshop on Wheels operates for morning tea and lunch on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Orders are to be placed online via Flexischools prior to 8.15 am each day. Students from Years 7 - 12 and staff may purchase over the counter with cash or eftpos at break times. We do not allow Junior School students to purchase items over the counter. All Junior School orders must be placed using Flexischools.

Reminder: No Nuts or Nut Products at School

A reminder to all families that our school is a nut-free environment to protect students with severe anaphylactic allergies. We ask that no nuts or nut-based products (including items like Nutella or peanut butter) be brought to school in lunchboxes, snacks, or for sharing during special events.

This applies to all year levels from Kindergarten to Year 12, and includes all school events, excursions, and activities.

Please note that while we aim to be nut-free, some pre-packaged items may contain traces of nuts as stated by manufacturers. We encourage parents to check labels carefully and choose safe alternatives.
