Sport @ LORDS
Since LORDS inception, sporting pursuits have played a fundamental role in developing well-rounded individuals.
LORDS provides opportunities for our students to engage in sport at all levels – from junior school interschool sports teams to regional and state championships through to our Senior Years.
We aim to develop life skills through sport, such as character development, resilience, perseverance, and self-discipline.
LORDS is developing a reputation for topping inter-school sports leagues and gaining notoriety in competing at district, state, and national levels.
From Year 3, LORDS students participate in our annual sports carnivals including Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country/Colour Fun Run. From Year 4, our students compete in inter-school sport on a regular basis. LORDS also run a range of free or low-cost sporting activities outside of school hours including running club, netball, futsal, touch football, and AFL Auskick.
Junior School Sport
From Prep to Year 3, students are taught basic swimming and water survival skills. For 4 weeks in Term 4, students attend a local aquatic centre where they receive professional instruction in learning to swim, survival skills, and more.
From Years 4 through 6, students compete in our local NGCAS (Northern Gold Coast Association of Sport) inter-school sport. Students compete in a variety of winter and summer sports including:
- Touch Football
- Lawn Bowls
These sports are supported by our Year 11 and 12 sport and recreation students who come along each week to help support, coach and referee in their chosen sport.
In addition to these sports, students have the opportunity to represent LORDS at the annual swimming, athletics, and cross-country carnivals.
PREP TO YEAR 2 EVENTS
To increase student participation in sports at LORDS this year, we are aiming to host a sports event every term for our PREP – 2 cohort.
This term, we will be hosting the “Hoppy Hoedown Field Day” on Monday June 6th from 1:30pm – 3:10pm. Parents are welcome to attend.
This day will feature a range of novelty-style Country & Western activities for students to participate in. We will have everything from the Snake in my Boot Toss to the Barnyard Hop.
On this day, we would love to see students dressed in a hoedown theme. If you can, please send your child to school with a flannelette shirt they can wear over the top of their sports uniform on the day.
This is a fantastic initiative here at LORDS that will no doubt be engaging and fun. Year 6 Sports captains will also be supporting on this day.
The Senior School Sports program runs throughout the school year. Intra-school carnivals are held for cross-country, athletics, and swimming.
A summer and winter season of inter-school sports competition through AGCC (Association of Gold Coast Colleges) gives students the opportunity to develop their team-playing skills further. Students can choose from sports of:
- Touch Football
- Indoor Cricket
Students can also choose from a range of recreational activities including:
- Bush Walking
House Sport & Challenges
All LORDS students are assigned to one of our three houses – Pimpama, Logan, and Albert. Year 3 to 12 students compete inter-house in three major sports carnivals each year: swimming, cross country, and athletics. Prep to Year 2 students enjoy their own mini-versions in running and athletics.
House challenges are also a regular fixture at LORDS, where students compete regularly in various competitions, including Thursday and Friday afternoon house games and the Amazing Race – LORDS House Cup.
Representative Sport Pathways
LORDS is able to facilitate sport pathways for students through School Sport.
Pathways progress through the following Representative School Sport Levels:
District – Pacific District School Sport (View Trial Dates for 2022 here)
Regional – School Sport South Coast
State – Queensland School Sport
National – School Sport Australia
Pacific District provides sport selection opportunities through carnivals (swimming, cross country, and athletics) and selection trials for individual team sports. All nominations for District, Regional, State, and National are made via the Sports Coordinator.
