My first weeks at LORDS have been filled with warm welcomes, meaningful conversations, and many new and amazing people to meet. I am sincerely grateful to our staff, students, and families for the kindness they have shown as I settle into the life of our school. I am also thankful for the grace being shown to me at this time of learning.

I would particularly like to acknowledge Mrs Selina Kinne for her outstanding leadership as Acting Principal throughout Semester 1. Selina served our community with care and commitment during this period and has been incredibly generous in supporting me throughout the transition. I am deeply appreciative of her encouragement and guidance.

Last Friday, I had the privilege of speaking at our Junior and Secondary School Assemblies as part of our recognition of NAIDOC Week. During those assemblies, I reflected on the importance of celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, particularly their deep connection to and care for Country.

I shared a personal story of standing on Mount Yarrahapinni in northern New South Wales, looking towards South-West Rocks and across farmland that once belonged to my grandparents, parents and other close relatives. Although I only lived there for the first three years of my life, I still felt a strong connection to that place and to the generations of my family who had lived and worked there before me.

That experience reminded me that the connection I felt is only a small glimpse of the much deeper and enduring relationship Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have with Country. It is a connection shaped over countless generations through family, culture, story and a profound sense of belonging.

As we continue to celebrate NAIDOC Week, may we take time to also come as guests too, to listen, to learn and to celebrate the richness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. In doing so, we strengthen our own community and continue to grow in understanding of ourselves and one another.

Sibling Enrolment applications – Spaces limited

LORDS is already planning for resources, year-level structures and staffing for 2027. If you plan to enrol a sibling or have family or friends looking for a place at LORDS in 2027, please submit an application as soon as possible. Our application process can be accessed via this link: Enrol at LORDS.

Please note: we are also receiving very strong interest for 2028 and some Year levels may be on a Wait List within the next month or so. This is especially the case for Prep and Year 7 in 2028. Please submit any applications as soon as possible.

Notice required – If not continuing at LORDS in 2027

Further, if you know your child will not be attending LORDS in 2027, it would be of assistance if you could please notify our Registrar, Leisa Martin, in writing as soon as possible and with consideration of the enrolment contractual obligations of providing at least one term’s notice in writing. Should a term’s notice not be received, a term’s fees will be charged in lieu of notice.

This means for those students not returning in 2027, written notice should be received via email or letter no later than September 18th, 2026.

It has been wonderful to welcome the students back for Term 3. After a good holiday break, they are engaging in learning across their timetable. Year 8 & 9 students have started their new Passion and Purpose Pathway electives. Year 10 have new timetables so they can begin studying their Year 11 elective options. Year 12 are in their final sprint to the end as they finalise their assessments and learning before beginning their final exam preparations. Year 11 should now be getting more used to the pace and intensity of Senior Secondary Studies, and Year 7 are not feeling new anymore. They have made great connections with their peers and their teachers and will be starting a new set of Taster subjects this Term.

Mega Swing is back!

Last week Year 7 students were inducted in the use of the Mega Swing. It is quite special to have a swing in the Secondary School, and the students have been really enjoying getting to use the swing on the lovely Winter days we have been experiencing.

Parent Teacher Interviews

On Wednesday night we held Parent Teacher Interviews. It was great to see students and their parents come and meet with their teachers to talk about academic progress and set goals for the Term to support improved academic achievement. If you weren’t able to make an appointment, then please feel free to contact your child’s teacher regarding their progress.

Assessment Dates

Heads of Faculty have worked with their teams to set Assessment dates for Semester 2. Students and Parents can access these on the calendar in TASS Parent Lounge and Student Café. These are shared with students so they can plan ahead for completing their assessments on time. Please note that many subjects also have checkpoints and/or draft due dates, as this is an important way that teachers can check the progress of assessments and provide valuable feedback before final drafts are due. Submitting drafts for feedback is the most important strategy for achieving the best in assessment.

Secondary Awards Assembly

Parents and Carers are invited to join us at the Awards Assembly scheduled for Thursday 30th July at 8.30am in the O Block Undercroft. Awards will be presented for Academic Achievement, Effort, Commitment to Excellence and Attendance. It is expected that the Assembly will be finished at approximately 9.15am.

Book Week

On Friday 31st July, LORDS is celebrating Book Week. The Junior School will have a Book Parade so everyone can see their Book Week costumes. While the Secondary students do not participate in the Book Parade, they are invited to dress as a book character for Book Week to join in the fun of Book Week. There will also be a Whole School Reading opportunity for buddy classes across the school, and Secondary students will have the chance to join in a House Academic Quiz as well. It is a great time to celebrate the joy of reading!

Even though the weather was a little damp, our Year 7 excursion to the Japanese Garden at Mt Coot-tha was anything but!

Students immersed themselves in Japanese culture through a range of engaging, hands-on experiences. They explored the unique features and symbolism of traditional Japanese gardens, crafted beautiful bamboo-themed ink paintings, and expressed their creativity through haiku poetry writing.

The essence of the garden was captured beautifully in their haiku poetry:

Throughout the day, our students demonstrated the LORDS Ways in action. They showed respect for the garden environment, staff and one another; embraced opportunities to learn through new cultural experiences; displayed responsibility in representing our school so positively; and approached every activity with a spirit of service and kindness, supporting their peers and engaging enthusiastically in each task.

After a busy morning of learning, students enjoyed a delicious Japanese bento box lunch, choosing from karaage chicken, BBQ beef, ginger pork or agedashi tofu.

We are incredibly proud of the way our Year 7 cohort conducted themselves. Their positive attitude, exemplary behaviour and eagerness to learn made this excursion a wonderful success and a memorable experience for all involved.

Our Year 11 Chemistry students recently completed the practical component of their FA2 Student Experiment, investigating the molar volume of a gas under laboratory conditions.

Working collaboratively, students designed and refined experimental procedures, collected high-quality quantitative data, and evaluated the reliability and validity of their results. By generating and measuring hydrogen gas produced in a controlled chemical reaction, students were able to determine the molar volume of a gas and compare their experimental values with accepted theoretical values.

This practical investigation forms an important part of the Queensland senior Chemistry course, allowing students to develop essential scientific inquiry skills while applying concepts from gas chemistry, stoichiometry and quantitative analysis. Throughout the investigation, students demonstrated careful laboratory technique, safe handling of chemicals and equipment, and thoughtful problem-solving as they identified sources of uncertainty and considered improvements to their experimental design.

Experiences such as these highlight the importance of practical science, where students move beyond theory to collect evidence, analyse data and communicate scientific conclusions—skills that are fundamental to both scientific research and many future STEM careers.

Well done to our Year 11 chemists on their enthusiasm, teamwork and commitment to producing high-quality scientific investigations.

Last term in Year 12 Industrial Technology Skills class, the students followed design plans to construct a dog house. 

The class learned how to construct wall and roof framing before finishing off with cladding, corrugated iron roofing, and capping for the roof and walls. The students have built solid houses for dogs - sure to withstand any weather (hopefully)!

We were delighted to welcome students from Sasayama High School and Takarazuka Nishi High School to LORDS recently for a day of learning, cultural exchange, and new friendships.

Our visitors spent the day "shadowing" a Year 8 buddy, joining them in Maths, English, and Japanese classes to experience life as a LORDS student. They also shared their knowledge and insights about some of Japan’s lesser-known travel destinations and hidden gems with our Year 9 Travel and Tourism students, providing a unique and authentic perspective on travel in Japan.

At lunchtime, the fun continued with a pizza party, handball games, time on the swings, and plenty of conversations as students got to know one another and build international connections.

Thank you to our guests from Sasayama High School and Takarazuka Nishi High School for visiting LORDS and making the day so memorable. We loved sharing our school community with you and look forward to future opportunities to strengthen these wonderful international friendships!

Year 9 Night at the Museum a Resounding Success! 

The Year 9 Night at the Museum was a tremendous success, bringing together students, staff, families, and community members for an evening of learning, reflection, and celebration.
The centrepiece of the event was the impressive collection of World War I museum exhibits created by our Year 9 students. 

Through months of research and preparation, students transformed historical information into engaging displays that showcased their understanding of the experiences, sacrifices, and stories of those who lived through the Great War. Visitors were highly impressed by the quality, creativity, and depth of knowledge demonstrated throughout the exhibits. 

A special highlight of the evening was the attendance of some North Gold Coast RSL dignitaries, whose presence added significance and authenticity to the event. Their support helped strengthen the connection between our students' learning and the importance of remembering and honouring those who served. 

Guests were also treated to an outstanding selection of hors d'oeuvres prepared by Hospitality teachers Mrs Carla Armstrong, Mrs Riette Nel, and Mrs Belinda Ingram, with invaluable assistance from our Hospitality students. Their professionalism and attention to detail ensured visitors were warmly welcomed and exceptionally well catered for throughout the evening. 

Events of this scale are only possible through the dedication of many staff members working behind the scenes. Special thanks must go to our Humanities teachers, Mr Mark Mendez-Cortes, Mr Justin Engelbrecht, and Mr Tim Grace, for their incredible support and hard work in preparing the students and ensuring everything ran smoothly. A heartfelt thank you must also be given to our Learning Enhancement team, especially Mrs Steph Zipf and Ms Rebecca Miller, whose support helped ensure every student could participate meaningfully and confidently in the event. 

The evening was a wonderful celebration of student learning, historical inquiry, and community spirit. Most importantly, it provided our students with an authentic opportunity to share their learning with a wider audience and to demonstrate the skills, knowledge, and pride they have developed throughout the unit. 

Behind every successful Night at the Museum is an incredible amount of planning, organisation and dedication, and we would like to extend our sincere thanks to Mrs Emily McGill for coordinating this wonderful event.

From the initial preparations through to the final details on the night, Mrs McGill's hard work, creativity and commitment helped bring learning to life for our students and created a memorable experience for all who attended.

At the end of Term 2, the Year 10 Engineering class braved wet conditions to launch and test their water-powered bottle rockets. As part of the assessment, students explored key engineering principles related to rocketry, including Newton’s Laws of Motion and aerodynamics. They then researched, designed, and developed their own nose cones and fin configurations to improve flight performance.

Using Fusion, students modelled their designs before manufacturing the components through laser cutting and 3D printing, ready for attachment to their rockets. Once completed, the rockets were launched to evaluate which designs achieved the greatest distance and demonstrated the most stable flight characteristics.

The project provided students with a valuable opportunity to apply theoretical concepts in a practical setting, test their ideas, analyse performance, and identify areas for future improvement. It was a highly engaging and rewarding experience that highlighted the importance of design, testing, and iteration in the engineering process.

A huge congratulations to Year 11 student, Will S, who received his Certificate II Plumbing qualification with Gold Coast Trade College.

Our Year 7 Biology students enjoyed an exciting excursion exploring the fascinating world of classification and taxonomy. Through hands-on observations and investigations, students learned how scientists group living things based on their characteristics.

They also examined the important roles of biotic and abiotic factors in maintaining healthy ecosystems. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect classroom learning with the natural world and deepen their understanding of biodiversity and environmental sustainability. A great day of discovery, curiosity, and scientific thinking!

Living the LORDS Way – Respect in Action

This term, one of our key focuses across the Junior School has been respect. While respect is often thought of as simply being polite, we have been helping our students understand that it is demonstrated through the choices we make every day.

Students have been learning what it means to respond to others respectfully, even when they may disagree or feel frustrated. We have also been placing a strong emphasis on showing respect during shared community experiences, such as moving quietly into and out of assemblies and chapel, listening attentively when others are speaking, and recognising that our actions can impact the learning and worship of those around us.

Respect is an important part of our LORDS Way and helps create a safe, positive and welcoming environment where everyone feels valued. We encourage families to continue these conversations at home by discussing what respectful words, actions and attitudes look like in different settings. When school and home work together, we help our students develop habits of respect that will serve them well throughout their lives.

Celebrating NAIDOC Week – 50 Years of Deadly

Last Friday, our Junior School came together to celebrate NAIDOC Week with a day of meaningful learning, connection and celebration. This year's theme, "50 Years of Deadly," recognises five decades of honouring the strength, resilience, achievements and rich cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Students participated in a variety of engaging cultural experiences, rotating through activities including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and craft, traditional games and sporting activities, storytelling, and an exciting orienteering challenge. Each activity encouraged students to explore the histories, traditions and perspectives of Australia's First Nations peoples in a hands-on and engaging way.

Throughout the day, students demonstrated curiosity, respect and enthusiasm as they embraced each experience. The celebration provided valuable opportunities to deepen their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures while reflecting on the importance of recognising and celebrating the world's oldest continuing cultures.

During Semester Two, our Year 1 students explored the past through Project-Based Learning, connecting with "living historians" and uncovering stories from years gone by.

Students in 1C learned about Trevor and his love of birds. Inspired by what they discovered, they designed and created a special bird feeder just for him. Trevor returned to visit us and collect his gift and see the students' work firsthand.

Meanwhile, students in 1B connected with historians Lee and Jane. After learning about their interests and favourite things, the students created personalised gifts—a cricket bat for Lee and a tote bag for Jane —featuring what makes them unique.

These authentic connections have helped bring history to life, allowing students to learn through curiosity, creativity, and meaningful relationships with members of our community.

Our Year 3–6 Showcase of Learning was a wonderful celebration of curiosity, creativity, growth, and achievement. The afternoon provided students with the opportunity to share their learning journey with an authentic audience. It was fantastic to see the pride and confidence our students demonstrated as they explained their thinking and received feedback from families and the wider school community.

Throughout Semester 1, students have engaged in learning experiences centred around big questions that challenge them to think critically, collaborate, and make a difference. During the showcase, they shared their learning and thinking around these driving questions:

• How might you, as a caretaker of creation, protect and care for the species in our world to help them survive?
• How might we keep Indigenous culture alive at LORDS?
• How might we reimagine a more diverse, inclusive, and accessible world for young people?
• How might we create an environmental learning space at LORDS?

We are incredibly proud of the way our students have embraced these authentic learning opportunities and shared their ideas with confidence, passion, and purpose.

Congratulations to our Year 8 Reader’s Cup Team! They enjoyed a wonderful night competing against 15 schools.

All schools read the same 5 books and then competed by answering questions based on these books. Our students are celebrated for their effort, loyalty, and commitment to this event!

A huge thank you to Friends of LORDS for funding our first-ever House Spirit Breakfast and to the volunteers for setting up, cooking, and serving! We couldn't do it without you. What a great morning!! There was food, music, decorations, and a LOT of house spirit!

What an incredible weekend at the Gold Coast Kokoda Challenge!
We are so proud to celebrate another 100% success rate, with every LORDS participant who started the challenge crossing the finish line. This is an outstanding achievement and a true reflection of the resilience, determination and teamwork that our students have demonstrated throughout the entire Kokoda program.

The Kokoda Challenge is about so much more than completing a distance. Over the past several months, our participants have committed themselves to training, fundraising, supporting one another and stepping well outside their comfort zones. They have embraced the Kokoda values of Courage, Endurance, Mateship and Sacrifice, and should all be incredibly proud of what they have accomplished.

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing staff and families who have supported our teams over the past few months and throughout the event weekend. Whether you trained alongside our students, volunteered at checkpoints, provided transport and encouragement, or cheered from the sidelines, your support played a vital role in making this year’s program such a success.

Double the talent. Double the achievement!

What an incredible accomplishment for brothers Aidan and Mason S, who both proudly represented Queensland at the National Indoor Cricket Championships in Melbourne during the school holidays.

Bringing together Australia's top indoor cricketers, the championships showcased the highest level of competition from across the country. To have two brothers competing on the national stage is a remarkable achievement and a testament to their hard work, commitment, and love of the game. (giving Chappell vibes!!!)

Aidan's tournament ended spectacularly, with the Queensland Under 18 team crowned National Champions after defeating Western Australia in the grand final.

Mason also enjoyed a fantastic tournament, helping his team finish 8th in Australia in their division against strong national competition.

Congratulations, Aidan and Mason! We are incredibly proud of your dedication, sportsmanship, and the way you continue to pursue excellence both on and off the field.

Congratulations to Lucas G on an outstanding achievement over the school holidays!

Lucas competed in the Football Queensland Junior Cup on the Sunshine Coast, where more than 1,200 Under 12 players from Football Queensland Academy regions and invited South East Queensland teams came together for three days of high-level competition.

Despite challenging weather conditions throughout the tournament, Lucas and his team showed incredible determination and teamwork, finishing the competition as the 2026 Under 12 Gold Cup Champions!

What a fantastic result, Lucas. We are so proud of your commitment, resilience, and success on the field. Congratulations!

National Success for Hayden!

Congratulations to Hayden W on his outstanding achievement of being selected to represent Australia in the Australian Representative U9s Futsal Team!

Following an impressive performance at the 2025 National School Futsal Championships, Hayden has earned the opportunity to tour China in July 2026 as part of the Australian team.

We can't wait to see you represent both LORDS and Australia on the international stage.

Congratulations to Hudson V, who travelled to Montesilvano, Italy, to represent the Australian Under 11s Futsal Team in the Montesilvano Futsal Cup. The team put in a solid competitive effort, and we’re very proud.

They won one out of five games. Others came close.
Coach rewarded Hudson with the tournament participation team trophy as MVP of the team, recognizing how much work he had put in and saying he was “super impressed” with his outstanding performance.

Congratulations to Noah H on an outstanding achievement over the school holidays!

Noah participated in WinterFest, the state’s largest Junior Football Carnival, on the Sunshine Coast. Noah's Under 11’s team won the Bronze Cup

Noah has also been selected to play in the MIC (Mediterranean International Cup) in Spain next year. Only 10 players were selected, so this is a huge accomplishment.

What a fantastic result, Noah. We are so proud of your commitment, resilience, and success on the field. Congratulations!

On Friday, 17th July, 13 of our students proudly represented LORDS at the Beenleigh Zone Primary Schools Championship Day, held at Windaroo State School.

All of our students competed with enthusiasm, determination and outstanding sportsmanship throughout the day. The standard of competition was extremely high, with students needing to finish in the top four of their event to qualify for the next level.
Congratulations to Chloe P, Charlie O, Kitty F and Heath N, who have all qualified for the Pacific District Athletics Carnival, to be held on 4–5 August.

We congratulate all 13 students on their fantastic efforts and the way they represented our school. We wish Chloe, Charlie, Kitty and Heath all the very best as they compete at the Pacific District Athletics Carnival.

Huge congratulations to Indie C on being selected in the South Coast U13–14 Regional Girls Futsal Team to compete at the National Championships in Cairns this October!

This is a fantastic achievement and a testament to Indie's hard work, dedication, and commitment to both futsal and soccer.

Congratulations to Austin L on an outstanding achievement over the school holidays!

Austin L participated in the Soccer, Under 10’s Gold Cup. His team came away winning the Under 10 division on penalties in the final, with Austin having to take a penalty.

They played 7 games in total. All were against FQ1 teams, and they beat Brisbane City, which they have never done before as that team.

Music is echoing through the Junior School thanks to the generous support of Bunnings Warehouse Australia Pimpama store, which kindly sponsored the buckets for our exciting bucket drumming program.

Bucket drumming is a fun, energetic way for students to build rhythm, develop music reading skills, strengthen performance confidence and experience the joy of making music together as an ensemble.

What a wonderful evening celebrating the creativity and talent of our students at the LORDS Winter Soirée. 

Held at Highway Church last week, the evening showcased the incredible work of students across The Arts, with performances from our Strings Ensemble, Choirs, Concert Band, Drama students, solo singers, and highlights from our recent production of Bugsy Malone, delighting the audience. 

Guests also enjoyed a stunning display of student artwork, while Head of the Arts Faculty, Leon Loreaux, brought creativity to life with a live painting throughout the evening. 

A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated staff, students, and families who helped make the night such a special celebration of learning, creativity, and community. We are so proud of every student who performed, exhibited their work, or contributed behind the scenes. 

Congratulations to everyone involved in another memorable Winter Soirée!

School Office

Our office hours are between 8.00am – 4.00pm, Monday to Friday with the exception of Public Holidays.

Tuckshop

Our Tuckshop on Wheels operates for morning tea and lunch on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Orders are to be placed online via Flexischools prior to 8.15 am each day. Students from Years 7 - 12 and staff may purchase over the counter with cash or eftpos at break times. We do not allow Junior School students to purchase items over the counter. All Junior School orders must be placed using Flexischools.

Reminder: No Nuts or Nut Products at School

A reminder to all families that our school is a nut-free environment to protect students with severe anaphylactic allergies. We ask that no nuts or nut-based products (including items like Nutella or peanut butter) be brought to school in lunchboxes, snacks, or for sharing during special events.

This applies to all year levels from Kindergarten to Year 12, and includes all school events, excursions, and activities.

Please note that while we aim to be nut-free, some pre-packaged items may contain traces of nuts as stated by manufacturers. We encourage parents to check labels carefully and choose safe alternatives.

LORDS is putting together a team to participate in the ALWS Walk My Way in Brisbane on Saturday, 8th August, 2026. ALWS is the overseas aid and development agency of the Lutheran Church of Australia and New Zealand.

🔹When ALWS began in 1950, it was so generous Australians could walk alongside people in need… to bring care and love to those overlooked and forgotten by the world.
In 2026, Walk My Way will provide life–changing education to Girls in Danger of forced child marriage in refugee camps in Kenya and Somalia. Your Walk My Way will help to equip teachers, keep school safe, and cover the cost of tuition.

🔹Whether you step out in an ALWS Walk My Way, support a walker, or give a generous gift, you will help more Girls in Danger to go to school, protecting them from forced child marriage and giving them the chance to pursue their dreams.

🔹We hope you will join us on this walk. Junior School children must walk with an adult/family, and Secondary students may walk alone if they choose, but still be part of our team with staff and other families.

The Australian Government is introducing AusAlert, a new national warning system designed to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices during events such as bushfires, severe weather and public health emergencies.

Before the system is fully implemented in October 2026, a nationwide test will take place on:

Monday 27th July 2026
Approximately 2:00pm (AEST)

Students with a compatible mobile phone, tablet, smartwatch or children's safety watch may receive the test alert during school hours.

📱 The alert will:
• Vibrate the device
• Play a loud siren-like sound for approximately 10 seconds

⚠️ The sound will play even if the device is on silent, do not disturb, or has the volume turned down.

To help minimise disruption, students should follow directions from staff on the day. This may include:
• Turning devices off or switching them to aeroplane mode

We encourage families to discuss the test with their young person beforehand, so they know what to expect.

From 1st August 2026, all School Locker stores in the Loganholme region will begin the transition to a fully cashless payment system. This change forms part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing safety, improving operational efficiency and delivering a more seamless experience for students, staff, and families.

Why We’re Moving to Cashless

• Staff Health Welfare: Cashless environments improve physical health by reducing germ transmission, lowering contamination risk, and supporting cleaner, safer workplaces.
• Staff Mental Wellbeing: Research shows that handling cash increases staff stress, exposes employees to safety risks such as robbery, creates ongoing pressure from errors and reconciliation, and can have lasting psychological impacts following incidents. Moving toward cashless environments supports overall staff wellbeing and safety.
• Improved Security: Reduces the risks associated with handling and storing cash on site.
• Faster Transactions: Enables quicker checkout times for students and staff.

The BreastScreen Queensland mobile is at Pimpama City Shopping Centre until 3rd September 2026, offering free breast cancer screening. Women are eligible from age 40, with those aged 50 – 74 strongly encouraged to attend, as this is the age where the evidence of screening is strongest.
