Sometimes we have sunny days and sometimes rainy days!

Some days are full of colour and spectacle, and some days are routine, doing what we always do!

When we are reading a really interesting book that captures our attention, we can’t wait to turn the page and find out what happens next. We are waiting with expectation for something new to happen in the development of the story or in the lives of the characters we are reading about. The Bible has many exciting and interesting stories, and life for key characters in the Bible wasn’t always rainbows and sunshine. They went through difficult and challenging times.

The constant throughout the Bible was God speaking and acting. We are reminded that God is always there for us.

I recently shared this message with our staff and thanked them, as they are the constant for our students every day, no matter what is going on in their lives. They model what God is for us - a constant thread through the chapters of our lives! Students often rely on the support and presence of their teachers and the comfort of knowing they are there every day for them. Through our teachers, our students can learn that God is always there for them, too!

Dear God,

Thank you that you are with us, regardless of what we are facing. Your presence is a sanctuary where we find peace, strength, and quiet when we are feeling overwhelmed.

Forgive us for being distracted by the worries of this world. Please open our eyes to see you in our day—in our work, our challenges, and our relationships.

Help us to walk in the knowledge of your constant love and care, trusting that we are never alone.

• This year, we will be praying for families in our community and their needs: Armstrong, Arun, Augustine, Backus, Bagnall, Bailey.

Parent Engagement

As Acting Principal, I attend events across the school and engage with students and parents. Parents are a vital part of our school community and parent engagement in the school is strong. We consistently have a high number of parents attending our Assemblies and Chapels each week, especially in the Junior School. Our Junior School students have been showcasing their learning at Assemblies, and it is great for parents to see what the different classes are learning. We had wonderful support from parents for the Cross Country and Colour Run events this week along with excellent participation in fundraising for our Colour Runs exceeding our goal of raising $15,000. Thanks to our LORDS community for getting behind this fundraiser.

On Monday 30th March and Wednesday, 1st April we are welcoming parents to meet with teachers at Parent Teacher Interviews. We especially encourage Year 6 students to attend these interviews with their parents as they also have a role in taking responsibility for their learning and setting goals. 

In addition, on this night, the Secondary Leadership Team and I are available for Year 6 parents to book an interview with us as part of the transition into Year 7 for 2027. We look forward to answering questions about Secondary education at LORDS and getting to know these young people and their families. A strong relationship is vital as they move through the school. Our Year 12 student leaders will be running tours of the Secondary facilities so Year 6 families can join a tour and find out more about what we offer in Secondary at LORDS. 

Year 7-12 Parent Teacher Interviews will be held early in Term 2 on Monday, 27th April and Wednesday, 29th April. Parents and Students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to discuss student progress and set goals for ongoing learning and achievement.

Parents are always welcome to attend Chapels, Assemblies, and other events advertised. Another way to get involved in our school is to join the Friends of LORDS (FOLS), who plan community events and fundraise for the school. Come along to the Movie Night on Friday, 27th March and meet others at this LORDS community event.

Farewell to Staff

It is with sadness that we will be farewelling Bessie Kammoora after almost 9 years at LORDS, where she has been passionate about developing the Junior School Japanese program. We thank her for all of her work in developing Japanese language and cultural understanding at LORDS in this time. Bessie's last day will be Fri 27 March. Bessie will always be a valued part of the LORDS story. She is looking forward to being able to spend more time with her young family. We wish Bessie and her family all the best for the future.

Enrolments for 2027

We are currently interviewing students for our Prep classes and Year 7 classes for 2027. Prep interviews were held on Saturday, 28th February and Saturday, 14th March. It was lovely for the Junior School Leadership Team and me to meet these children and their families and get to know them. The children were so engaged in the conversations and showed a genuine curiosity in the world. It was a joy to meet them and talk to their parents about these wonderful young people. Year 7 interviews are being scheduled, and we look forward to meeting young people who are keen to join our school for their Secondary education.

Chapel at LORDS

We are privileged to have Pastor Mark Gierus as our school Pastor two days per week and Chappy Jeremy 5 days a week. They lead Chapels, sharing positive messages with our young people. 

Pastor Mark has an engaging style where he asks questions and interacts with the children to bring the messages of the Bible and faith alive to the students. Chappy Jez brings humour and relatable concepts that help make the messages of faith accessible to young people so they can apply them in their lives. 

It is also lovely to see the Junior School students engage in singing and actions to songs with a positive message and values. Pastor Mark and Chappy Jeremy also spend time visiting classes and catching up with students across the school. We thank them for their service to the school in this way.

Harmony Day: Everyone Belongs

This week, our school community proudly celebrates Harmony Day, a time to recognise and value the rich cultural diversity that makes our school such a welcoming place. Harmony Day reminds us that everyone belongs and encourages us to show respect, understanding, and kindness in our everyday interactions.

Students have engaged in learning experiences that promote empathy and inclusion, reinforcing the importance of standing together and valuing the differences that enrich our community.

Staying Informed: Parent Lounge and Assessment Feedback

As we move through the term, we encourage parents and carers to regularly check Parent Lounge for assessment results and teacher feedback, which are progressively being released.

This feedback provides valuable insight into student progress and achievement and offers a meaningful opportunity to celebrate successes and discuss next steps for learning. Maintaining open conversations at home helps students stay informed and supported in their academic journey.

Responsibility: Learning, Behaviour, and Community Expectations

This week, we are focusing on the LORDS Way – ‘I can be responsible’. We continue to encourage students to take responsibility for their learning, their behaviour, and the choices they make each day.

This includes being respectful to others, meeting learning expectations, arriving prepared for lessons, and representing our school positively both on campus and in the wider community. When students act responsibly, they contribute to a safe, supportive environment where everyone can learn and thrive.

Year 7 & 8 Incursion: Brainstorm Productions - Cyberia

Our Year 7 and 8 students attended Cyberia, a live theatre performance presented by Brainstorm Productions. Cyberia is an engaging and age‑appropriate production that explores online safety, cyberbullying, digital choices, resilience, and mental health through relatable storytelling and real‑world scenarios. The program encourages students to reflect on their own digital behaviours and empowers them with strategies for making safe, respectful, and responsible choices online.

This experience strongly reinforces the importance of being a positive digital citizen. We encourage students and families to continue conversations at home about respectful online communication, managing screen time, looking out for friends, and knowing when and how to seek support. Maintaining positive mental health and wellbeing—both online and offline—remains a shared responsibility between school and home.

We congratulate our students on the positive and mature manner in which they approached NAPLAN this year. These assessments require focus, resilience, and perseverance, and our students demonstrated these qualities throughout the testing period.

Easter Worship: Reflecting on What Matters Most

Our school community will gather for Easter Worship on Monday, 30th April at Highway Church. This will be a meaningful opportunity to come together in prayer and reflection as we focus on the true reason for this sacred season in the Church year.
Through worship, we will celebrate Easter and reflect on the message of hope, renewal, and new life at the heart of our faith.

Joint Acting Heads of Secondary School

Creativity is thriving in our Senior Visual Art classrooms!

Our Year 11 and 12 students have been exploring a diverse range of artistic styles and techniques—expressing their ideas through painting, photography, collage, and even experimenting with the bold, abstract forms of Cubism.

From carefully composed photographic works to layered mixed-media pieces and striking painted compositions, each artwork reflects the unique perspective and voice of the artist.

It’s inspiring to see our students take creative risks, challenge traditional boundaries, and develop their own artistic identity as they prepare for their final years of schooling.

We’re so proud of the imagination, skill, and dedication on display!

Our Year 12 students started Wellbeing Week in the sweetest way last Monday — with waffles and ice cream for breakfast.

More than just a treat, it was a chance to slow down, connect with one another, and enjoy some relaxed conversation before another busy week of learning, leadership, and preparing for the final year of school.

Earlier this week, we had 44 students join us from Furukawa Reimei Junior High School, along with teachers and the Vice Principal.

Students from Year 8 hosted our new friends for 2 days and helped them with their English skills and all things Australian!

Year 7 have been exploring the theme of bird life in their unit, "Capturing Nature".

These charcoal drawings were inspired by the work of Jody Graham, who creates charcoal bird studies in response to the 2019/2020 Black Summer bushfires that swept through Australia.

In their artworks, birds are depicted fleeing fire-affected landscapes, exploring themes of survival and resilience. Through expressive mark making and texture, students echo Graham’s focus on repair and preservation, creating works that tell stories of endurance and highlight the urgent need to protect our environment.

It has been another busy and exciting couple of weeks in Junior School, with much to celebrate across learning, sport, and community events.

Our Year 3 and Year 5 students approached NAPLAN in a calm and focused manner throughout the testing period. We are incredibly proud of the way they applied themselves and should be commended for their efforts. These assessments are just one snapshot of learning, but they do highlight the consistent effort students and teachers have been investing in building strong literacy and numeracy foundations.

Our Junior School Cross Country was a fantastic event, filled with energy, perseverance, and house spirit. It was wonderful to see so many students pushing themselves and encouraging one another along the course. Congratulations to Pimpama for taking out the win this year, a well-deserved achievement!

Adding to the excitement, both our P–2 and Year 3–6 Colour Runs were a huge hit. These events were full of laughter, colour, and joy, and it was fantastic to see students, staff, and families coming together in such a fun way. Our fundraising efforts have been outstanding, and we sincerely thank our community for your generosity and support. Your contributions make a real difference to the opportunities and resources available to our students.

A special thank you goes to Scott and the team for their organisation and leadership in delivering such successful and engaging sporting events. Your efforts are deeply appreciated and have created lasting memories for our students.

We are also looking forward to recognising Harmony Day this Friday. Students are invited to wear a touch of orange as a symbol of inclusion, respect, and belonging. Harmony Day is a celebration of Australia’s cultural diversity and promotes the message that “everyone belongs.” It provides a valuable opportunity for our students to reflect on the importance of kindness, understanding, and embracing the rich diversity within our school and wider community.

𝟏𝟔 𝐁𝐨𝐲𝐬 𝐕𝐄𝐓𝐎 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐞 – 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧.

The LORDS U16 Boys Futsal team delivered an outstanding performance at QSF Gala Day 1, held at Coomera, putting themselves firmly at the top of the standings after a dominant opening round.
Playing three matches across the day, the team showcased skill, composure, and attacking flair to secure three impressive wins:

• LORDS 7 – 3 Kingscliff High School
• LORDS 6 – 4 Helensvale State High School
• LORDS 9 – 2 Coombabah State College

Across all three fixtures, the team demonstrated strong teamwork and a relentless attacking mindset, scoring an impressive 22 goals while maintaining control in key moments.

Standout performances came from Frank, Aiden, Liam, and Tannim, who consistently influenced the game with their work rate in defending, creativity moving forward, and finishing ability.

With three wins from three, LORDS now sit top of the table, setting a strong foundation heading into the next Gala Day. The team will be looking to maintain this momentum as they continue their push for the title.

Well done to all players for an exceptional start to the campaign.

The Secondary School Cross Country Carnival was a fantastic morning filled with house colour, spirit, energy, and determination. It was great to see so many students getting involved, whether competing, supporting, or simply embracing the atmosphere of the day.

There were some outstanding performances, alongside many impressive displays of grit and resilience, with students digging deep and pushing through even when their legs were tiring. These moments truly captured the spirit of the event.

The Monster House Fun Run was a highlight, with all Houses earning strong points through their collective effort and participation. It was wonderful to see students and staff enjoying this together and making the most of the experience.

Another standout was the “Beat the Bunny” initiative, which was extremely well-received. A big thank you to our brave teacher “bunnies” for getting involved with such enthusiasm, and to all the students who took on the challenge—whether you managed to catch them or not!

What a day! On Tuesday, 17th March, our Prep to Year 2 students lit up the oval with colour, laughter and pure joy at our Colour Run!

With every lap, bursts of pink, blue, yellow and green filled the air as students ran, skipped and danced their way around the course. Smiles were everywhere as the oval transformed into a sea of colour and excitement.

More than just a fun event, the Colour Run was all about movement, connection and school spirit. It was wonderful to see students cheering each other on, celebrating together and embracing every colourful moment.

A huge thank you to our amazing staff for bringing this event to life – and to our students for making it so unforgettable!

Monday, 16th March, was a day full of energy, colour, and incredible spirit as our Years 3–6 students took part in the Junior School Cross Country and Colour Run.

The morning saw students hit the course with determination and enthusiasm, cheered on by classmates and staff. This year marked the largest participation in Junior School Cross Country history, with students from every year level giving their all. The house spirit on display made the atmosphere electric!

The excitement didn’t stop there. In the afternoon, the Colour Run brought a burst of fun as students ran, laughed, and were showered in clouds of bright colour. It was the perfect way to celebrate a fantastic day together.

Amazing effort from Bentley at District & Regional Swimming.

At just 9 years old, Bentley competed against 10 and 11-year-olds and qualified for Regionals in three events.

He finished 1st in his breaststroke heat (11th overall in the 10-year-old division), 7th in freestyle (13th overall), and 5th in backstroke (13th overall).

A fantastic achievement and exciting progress for such a young swimmer—well done Bentley!

The stage is buzzing with energy as our Bugsy Malone cast and crew bring this vibrant production to life! From catchy songs to lively choreography and unforgettable characters, every rehearsal is packed with excitement, creativity, and teamwork.

Tuckshop

Our Tuckshop on Wheels operates for morning tea and lunch on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Orders are to be placed online via Flexischools prior to 8.15 am each day. Students from Years 7 - 12 and staff may purchase over the counter with cash or eftpos at break times. We do not allow Junior School students to purchase items over the counter. All Junior School orders must be placed using Flexischools.

Reminder: No Nuts or Nut Products at School

A reminder to all families that our school is a nut-free environment to protect students with severe anaphylactic allergies. We ask that no nuts or nut-based products (including items like Nutella or peanut butter) be brought to school in lunchboxes, snacks, or for sharing during special events.

This applies to all year levels from Kindergarten to Year 12, and includes all school events, excursions, and activities.

Please note that while we aim to be nut-free, some pre-packaged items may contain traces of nuts as stated by manufacturers. We encourage parents to check labels carefully and choose safe alternatives.
