World Staff Day – A Celebration of Service

This week, we take a moment to pause and give thanks for the incredible people who make up our LORDS staff communit,y those who teach, guide, care, support, clean, cook, create, and serve in so many unseen ways each day. Together, they shape the heart and spirit of our school.

At LORDS, we are blessed with staff who see their work not just as a job, but as a calling to nurture, to inspire, and to walk alongside others. Their kindness, faith, and commitment remind us that education is as much about shaping hearts as it is about growing minds.
As we celebrate World Staff Day, may we be reminded of the words from Colossians 3:23:

LORDS Celebrates

A reminder that our LORDS Celebrates for the Year 4-6 students and families will be held next week. Please see details below.

JUNIOR SCHOOL (YEARS 4 TO 6)
When: Tuesday, 4th November

Where: Highway Christian Church, Creek St, Ormeau

Time: LORDS Celebrates Junior School - 1.30pm start (everyone seated by 1.15pm)

Uniform: Students are to wear formal school uniform (no hats required). Please ensure that school shoes (leather, lace-up shoes) have been polished and hair is neat, off the collar, and out of the eyes. Students with shoulder-length hair or longer need to wear their hair back with an appropriate school plain coloured hair tie (i.e., navy, gold, or burgundy).

Year 6 students are to wear their formal uniform.

Leave Requests

Families are reminded that requests for leave need to be in writing to both your class teacher and Mrs Bruyn rebekah.bruyn@lords.qld.edu.au (P-6) and Mrs Kinne selina.kinne@lords.qld.edu.au  (Year 7-12). We strongly encourage you to talk through your request for leave with the school before you go ahead and book or plan any activities.

There are certain times of the term that are not ideal for leave regarding the learning and teaching process. We understand that certain family circumstances may require leave (eg compassionate leave) and are understanding of these requests and will support families in these situations.

End of Term Dates
Year 12 students finish on Wednesday, 19th November.

P-11 students finish on Friday, 5th December.

Parents are reminded that students are to attend school until the final day of school, as learning, exams, assessments, and end-of-year celebrations will occur until the final day.

Our Year 12 students have spent their final days of school celebrating in true LORDS style!

Last week, the cohort had a blast dressing as the first letter of their name, showing off creativity and plenty of laughs. They stepped into their future selves, dressing as what they aspire to be when they grow up!

During their final PC session, students met with their Year 7 buddies one last time, sharing their hopes and dreams for the future — a truly special moment of reflection and connection.

To top it all off, our Year 11 Hospitality students treated the Year 12s to a delicious picnic lunch, enjoyed under the sun while a few brave Year 12s took part in the Ponytail Project, cutting their hair to raise funds and awareness for cancer research.

We couldn’t be prouder of this incredible group of young people. Good luck in your exams, Year 12 — you’ve got this!

The Valedictory is attended by Year 12 students, staff, and parents. The occasion is designed to celebrate and thank students and parents. Each Year 12 student can bring up to 4 family members/special guests to the Valedictory. Year 12 students and family members/special guests must purchase tickets at a cost of $30 per ticket (maximum of 4 per student). The Valedictory includes canapes and soft drinks on arrival. Students are required to wear Full Formal uniform including ties and Blazers, and jewellery and grooming rules apply.

On Wednesday, 19th November, Year 12 students will attend school in their full formal uniform, including their Blazer. On this day, Year 12 students are not permitted to drive to school, and we expect that they will attend the Farewell Assembly with their Parents/Families.

• Arrive at the COLA by 8.00am, where there will be light refreshments available for Year 12 students and their families. This is an opportunity to take final photos together.

• From 8.30am – 9.30am we will have our special Year 12 Farewell Assembly.

• At 9.45am, Year 12 students will depart LORDS for the final time, with their families.

We greatly appreciate the wonderful partnerships we have formed with our Year 12 parents and families during your time at LORDS. We look forward to celebrating their final moments at LORDS with you.

We’re incredibly proud of Year 12 students, Mia V, Summer M, Anna M, Macquarie T, and Cohen E, who took part in the Cancer Council’s Ponytail Project last week — chopping their locks and raising over $3000 to support cancer research and patient care. Their courage, compassion, and commitment to making a difference is truly inspiring. Special congratulations to Cohen for his passion and organization of this event.

What a joyful evening as we gathered for our LORDS Celebrates Secondary School event! It was a privilege to honour the incredible gifts and achievements of our community – from academic growth and curiosity, to the determination shown on the sporting field, the creativity and courage shared through the arts, and the heart of service that continues to shape who we are at LORDS.

A special moment was taking time to acknowledge and bless our Graduating Class of 2025. We are so proud of the young people you are becoming – grounded in values, rich in character, and already making a difference.

We also shared a heartfelt farewell to Ms Hoff. With deep gratitude, we celebrated her leadership, authenticity, and unwavering belief in young people. Thank you for the way you have helped our school grow, flourish, and stay true to its heart.

Congratulations to the students involved in the APSMO Maths Olympiad and Maths Explorer Programs this year. These students participated in weekly sessions to develop their mathematical problem-solving skills over Term 2 and Term 3. They put their skills to the test in four contests over this time.

Held on 9th October, after being postponed from Term 1 due to wet weather, the Secondary School Colour Fun Run was bursting with House spirit, energy, and colour galore! Students rotated through three activities, earning valuable points for their House along the way.

A crowd favourite was the new slip and slide, an initiative from our Year 8–9 Active Warriors class, who have been exploring ways to make sporting events more inclusive and engaging for the LORDS community.

Historic First for LORDS Girls Rugby 7’s

A new chapter in LORDS' sporting history was written this week as the school hosted its first-ever Girls Rugby 7’s match — a milestone moment for the program and a proud day for everyone involved.

The U14 girls took to the field with great enthusiasm, combining with Hymba Yumba School to form mixed teams that delivered a thrilling display of running rugby, fearless tackling, and pure enjoyment of the game.

Obaapa K and Jada I crossed for some outstanding tries, showing strength and determination in attack, while Marley B impressed with her pace and evasive running. In defense, Layla C, Eva L, and Sienna D produced some thunderous tackles — the kind that could register an 8 on the Richter scale.

The match was played in a fantastic spirit, filled with teamwork, laughter, and moments of genuine skill. What made the performance even more remarkable was that the girls achieved this level of play after only one week of practice — a testament to their effort, attitude, and natural ability.

Coaches praised the girls for their courage and commitment, noting that the future of girls’ rugby at LORDS looks incredibly bright.

LORDS Boys Dominate in Rugby 7’s Showdown

LORDS’ U14 and U16 Rugby 7’s sides produced commanding performances against Hymba Yumba School, showcasing flair, power, and plenty of tries in an entertaining display of schoolboy rugby.

Both teams played with confidence and control, mixing strong defense with sharp attacking play. Big hits and clinical finishing were the order of the day, but most pleasing for the coaching staff was the clear improvement in the boys’ core rugby skills — teamwork, handling, and decision-making.

U14 Match Report:
The U14s were on fire from the opening whistle, with brothers Mitchell and Ciarnan F setting the tone in both attack and defense. Tannim K directed the play superbly, showing great vision and composure, while Frank O was electric every time he had the ball in hand, constantly putting the opposition under pressure.

U16 Match Report:
The U16s followed suit with another dominant display. Zac O and Jon T led from the front, combining power and skill in the contact area. Nate G impressed with some dynamic attacking runs, while Reuben A was simply outstanding — tackling with ferocity, carrying with intent, and setting the tone for his side throughout the contest.

Both teams can take enormous pride in their performances and the evident progress they’ve made this season.
A special thank you goes to Miss Stagg for her ongoing passion and support of Rugby 7’s, and to Ms Nankivell for her tireless efforts in making these opportunities possible.

LORDS participated in the 2025 Kings Touch Competition held at Southport. This event continues to grow each year, with over 20 schools taking part in this year’s competition.

LORDS entered three teams — 10-year-old Boys, 12-year-old Girls, and 12-year-old Boys. On a very warm day, all students played exceptionally well, showing great teamwork and determination. Each team improved throughout the day, developing new skills that they will carry forward into future touch events and Friday sport.

The students represented LORDS with pride and displayed outstanding team spirit both on and off the field.

Recently, Athena proudly represented LORDS in the Junior Aquathlon (300m swim and 2.5km run) at the All-Schools’ event on the Sunshine Coast during. 

Athena is relatively new to the sport of Aquathlon, and she raced strongly. Athena earned selection for the South Coast Regional Team to compete at the Queensland Representative School Sport State Aquathlon Championships in Hervey Bay next February.

On Saturday, 25th October, our Year 5 and 6 Concert Band students enjoyed their very first Concert Band Day Camp, a fun and focused day of music-making!

Students rehearsed their pieces for the upcoming Junior School Spring Soirée, working together to refine their sound and build confidence as a band. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm, teamwork, and dedication throughout the day.

Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and we look forward to hosting more Concert Band Day Camps in 2026! 🎶

On Monday, 20th October, our Strings students, accompanied by Mr Days and Mrs Coles, visited Coomera Special School to share their music and joy with the students. The visit was filled with smiles, laughter, and the wonderful sound of live music echoing through the hall.

Our students performed beautifully, captivating the audience with their talent and enthusiasm. It was heartwarming to see the joy their music brought to others, creating moments of connection and celebration that truly embodied the spirit of community.

We are incredibly proud of our Strings students for their respect, kindness, and positive energy, and for representing our school with such heart. What a memorable and meaningful experience for everyone involved!

Get ready to kick off the festive season at the LORDS Christmas Markets on Friday, 14th November! This much-loved community event is the perfect way to start your Christmas shopping while enjoying a fun night out with family and friends.

Tuckshop

Our Tuckshop on Wheels operates for morning tea and lunch on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Orders are to be placed online via Flexischools prior to 8.15 am each day. Students from Years 7 - 12 and staff may purchase over the counter with cash or eftpos at break times. We do not allow Junior School students to purchase items over the counter. All Junior School orders must be placed using Flexischools.

Reminder: No Nuts or Nut Products at School

A reminder to all families that our school is a nut-free environment to protect students with severe anaphylactic allergies. We ask that no nuts or nut-based products (including items like Nutella or peanut butter) be brought to school in lunchboxes, snacks, or for sharing during special events.

This applies to all year levels from Kindergarten to Year 12, and includes all school events, excursions, and activities.

Please note that while we aim to be nut-free, some pre-packaged items may contain traces of nuts as stated by manufacturers. We encourage parents to check labels carefully and choose safe alternatives.
