DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT
“Now if the foot should say, ‘Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,’ it would not for that reason stop being part of the body… But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.”
1 Corinthians 12:15, 18
Over the past few weeks, our LORDS Ways have focused on innate dignity and what it means to recognise that every person is created in the image of God.
It was my pleasure to share a message with our Junior School on Tuesday as part of our final Chapel for Term 3. We spoke about how Paul gives us another way of thinking in 1 Corinthians. He describes a body made up of many different parts. Each is different, each has a purpose, and each belongs. We used examples of how different sporting teams work together to form a whole, and there is a powerful message in that for our young people. They do not need to be someone else to have value. God has created each of them uniquely and placed them within communities where they can contribute, belong and be known.
Last Thursday's R U OK? Day gave us another opportunity to live this out. When we genuinely notice another person, listen to them and remind them that they matter, we recognise something that our Christian faith teaches us from the beginning: every person has God-given dignity and worth.
As parents and educators, we share the privilege of helping our young people understand this. We want them to recognise their own worth, while also learning to see and honour it in others.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for creating each of us in Your image and giving each person dignity and worth. Help us to recognise the gifts of others, notice when someone needs our care, and celebrate that we all belong as part of the LORDS community and your broader body of Christ.
