We share the responsibility for growing our young people, with Proverbs reminding us that what is formed in childhood matters. The foundations we lay today, together, help prepare our children for the lives they will lead tomorrow.

In a Lutheran school, this begins with the Gospel. In partnership with parents and families, we want our young people to know that they are deeply loved by God, saved by grace, and created with gifts and purpose. We want them to know not only who they are, but whose they are.

It is our privilege as educators and parents/guardians to walk alongside young people as they grow. Part of that responsibility is also allowing them to be challenged. We want them to try things that are unfamiliar, discover what they are capable of, and sometimes experience the discomfort that comes with doing something for the first time.

Through our partnership and collectively starting our children off on the way they should go, we help them grow in confidence, learn more about themselves, and become equipped for the opportunities and challenges in the future. They do this knowing the firm base of support they have with the LORDS community, their parents/guardians, and God.

One of the things I value about Lutheran education is the belief that learning should prepare young people for life.

Lutheran Education Australia's Free to Flourish learning story describes one of the characteristics we seek to grow in our young people as being Adventurous. It speaks of exploring the unknown with hope and wonder, and of learning that is challenging, experiential and immersive. At LORDS, this comes to life through our commitment to learning and service beyond the classroom.

Our Year 6 students are currently in Canberra, learning about our nation's history, democracy and identity by experiencing it firsthand. Our Year 8 students recently attended Kindilan Adventure Camp at Redland Bay, while Year 3 will soon experience the significant milestone of their first overnight camp, right here at LORDS. Shortly, our Year 9 students will also undertake Street Retreat, which provides a very different type of adventure through service, encounter and a deeper understanding of the experiences of others.

Being adventurous at LORDS is about being brave and stepping beyond what is comfortable, so that we might discover something about the world, other people and/or ourselves. In a Lutheran school, we view God's creation as something to explore with wonder, while possibly also enjoying relationship with or service of others. This sits naturally alongside our LORDS commitment to Learning for Life and Growing Relationships with God, Self and Others. Camps, service experiences and learning beyond the classroom are an integral part of a LORDS education.

This brings me back to the words from Proverbs in the devotional thought: “Start children off on the way they should go.” Through camps, service, and adventure, we give our children opportunities to discover their capabilities, grow alongside others, and experience God's creation.

Further, if you know your child will not be attending LORDS in 2027, it would be of assistance if you could please notify our Registrar, Leisa Martin, in writing as soon as possible, with consideration of the enrolment contractual obligations of providing at least one term’s notice in writing. Should a term’s notice not be received, a term’s fees will be charged in lieu of notice.

This means that for those students not returning in 2027, written notice should be received via email or letter no later than September 18th, 2026.

Service Learning in the Spotlight: Welcoming Our Lutheran Schools - Free to Flourish Learning Tour

Last week, we had the wonderful privilege of hosting a Learning Tour at LORDS, welcoming staff from Lutheran schools across Australia to see firsthand how Service Learning and the LORDS Ways are woven into our units of work across the school.

Our visitors spent the day in classrooms and in conversation with our teachers, exploring how Service Learning comes to life and hearing about how the LORDS Ways underpin everything we do. This gives Service Learning such a natural and authentic place within our curriculum and culture.

The day closed with a panel, where students and staff fielded questions from our visitors. It was great to hear our students speaking with confidence and heart about what Service Learning means to them. For our staff, the day was also a valuable opportunity to reflect on our practice and celebrate how Service Learning has become a genuine thread running through our curriculum and culture, rather than an add-on.

A big thank you to our Junior School staff for the dedication they show in bringing Service Learning and the LORDS Ways to life in their classrooms every day, and for making our visitors feel so welcome.

We look forward to continuing to share what we are learning, while learning from others as we work towards raising young people who serve with genuine compassion and purpose.

As this week is Teacher Aide Appreciation Week, we would also like to take this opportunity to thank our Student Mentors for their hard work and dedication in supporting both staff and students across our community. Their leadership, encouragement, and care make a significant difference in the life of our school, and we are grateful for all of them.

Interschool Spelling Bee

Congratulations to Lewis, William, William and Logan, who proudly represented LORDS at the 3–6 Interschool Spelling Bee on 19 August. Our Junior School students competed against students from six other Gold Coast schools at Saint Stephen’s College, demonstrating wonderful bravery, resilience and courage throughout the competition.
They all did a fantastic job, particularly as they faced some challenging words while spelling in front of an audience. We are incredibly proud of the way they represented LORDS.

Our Prep students had a wonderful day exploring and learning at Paradise Country! The excursion provided a fantastic opportunity for students to experience farm life and get up close to some of our favourite farm animals.

Throughout the day, students enjoyed meeting and learning about the animals, watching exciting farm demonstrations and exploring the beautiful surroundings. They were able to connect their classroom learning with real-life experiences as they discovered more about how animals live, grow and are cared for.

It was wonderful to see our Prep students showing curiosity, bravery and responsibility as they explored, asked questions and tried new experiences. There were plenty of smiles, excitement and memorable moments throughout the day!

A big thank you to our parent helpers for joining us and supporting our students. We are so proud of the way our Prep students represented our school and made the most of this special learning experience. What a fantastic day!

DAY ONE:
Our Year 6 students have travelled from Brisbane to Sydney and then continued their journey by coach towards Canberra. After travelling together, students enjoyed their first Canberra experience at the National Museum of Australia, where they had the opportunity to explore and learn more about Australia's people, places, history and stories.

After a busy day of travel and learning, students have arrived safely at Ibis Styles Eaglehawk, where they enjoyed dinner before taking part in some teacher-guided activities.

The students have been doing a wonderful job settling into the adventure, and we are looking forward to an action-packed day tomorrow!

DAY TWO:
What an incredible day our Year 6 students have had exploring Australia's National Capital!

Today began with spectacular views of Canberra from Mount Ainslie Lookout, followed by a visit to Government House. Students then visited Parliament House, where they explored the home of Australia's Federal Parliament and learned more about our democratic system and how our government operates.

The afternoon continued with a visit to the Australian War Memorial, providing students with opportunities to learn about and remember the stories of Australians who have served our country.

We then headed to the Australian Institute of Sport, where students discovered more about elite Australian sport before finishing the day with dinner and an evening experience at Questacon.

Today was the ultimate Canberra experience!!!!

DAY THREE:
What a fantastic day of adventure and learning – and we even got to experience snow!

Our day began with a visit to the Royal Australian Mint for one of our groups, where students learned about Australian currency and the process of making our coins. The other group visited the National Electoral Education Centre, where students explored how Australia's democratic system works.

Students also enjoyed a driving tour through Canberra's Embassy and Lodge District before heading to the beautiful National Arboretum Canberra for lunch and activities.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly our visit to Corin Forest, where students had the opportunity to experience a winter environment and enjoy some time playing in the snow. It was certainly a memorable experience for everyone!

After a full day of activities, students returned to Ibis Styles Eaglehawk for dinner and some time to pack to come home.

Tomorrow is our final day in Canberra. We will enjoy some more sightseeing and learning before beginning our journey home to Brisbane.

What an amazing adventure it has been!

Science Week 15th-23rd August

During Science Week, students enjoyed a range of opportunities to explore, investigate and discover the world around them. In class, students participated in a range of engaging science activities, including experiments, a science quiz and a sound science quiz, which encouraged curiosity, questioning and scientific thinking. Lunchtime activities provided students with additional opportunities to engage in fun STEM experiences in the STEM Room, while nature walks encouraged students to observe and explore the science that can be found all around us. 

Congratulations to the winners of our Science Week Competition, where students took a photograph of science happening in everyday life and explained what science is happening and why.

We’re incredibly proud of our Year 4 and Year 5 students who proudly represented LORDS at the A.B. Paterson Public Speaking Competition on Monday, 31st August.

After weeks of dedicated preparation and practice, our students took to the stage with confidence, courage and poise, showcasing their growing public speaking skills.

Our Year 4 students demonstrated some fantastic skills, including expression of voice, eye contact, gestures and a strong pace, confidently sharing their speeches with an audience.

Our Year 5 representatives also delivered their speeches with confidence and composure, reflecting the hard work, preparation and commitment they put into their presentations.

A huge congratulations to our Year 4 students Felicity G., Kaylee B., Amelia M., Braxton E., Kitty F. and Eloise Z., and our Year 5 students Ava M., Aria C. L., Elina W., Evie R. and Quinn G.

We commend every student for taking on the challenge, stepping outside their comfort zones, and representing LORDS so confidently.

What a wonderful example of our students becoming Inspiring Great Humans!

With the recent tragedy in Nepal, the school has made the decision to fundraise to support the work of ALWS (Australian Lutheran World Service) in Nepal. On Thursday 8th October, the school will be having a Colour Day, and activities throughout the day will be focused on supporting the people of Nepal. We will be praying for the people, selling Zooper Doopers of all different colours, and for the Secondary School, we will finish by celebrating with a Colour Run.

We will be asking for donations and selling Zooper Doopers to raise funds. Students will need to wear their sports uniform on the day and then have a white shirt to change into for the Colour Run. Students are not able to participate in the Colour Run in their sports uniform. They must be wearing a white shirt to participate.

We encourage all students to get behind this great cause and bring along their donations and small change to purchase zooper doopers. Every contribution will help make a difference for the people of Nepal

Study Habits

Year 11 Exams and Year 12 Mock Exams are starting next week. Letters have been sent to students and their families with information about how the exams will run. In preparation for these exams, students should be setting aside time each day to study. Last Thursday, Ms Fisser gave a very informative presentation to Year 12 students with tips about how to study and methods that have worked for her in her own study. This week she had the opportunity to share this with Year 11 students.

Here are some great tips for students preparing for exams:

Exam Techniques
Understanding how to approach different question types, manage time effectively, and interpret command terms can significantly improve exam performance. Students should ask their subject teachers for advice.

Summarising Notes and Revision Books
Creating concise revision books by summarising key concepts helps students identify the most important information and makes review more efficient. A visit to a Stationery store to purchase some great notebooks is a great way to engage students in revision.

Posters and Visual Learning
Displaying subject-specific posters around study spaces provides regular visual reinforcement of important concepts and key facts. Students can make their own posters and visual learning tools, so make sure they have Blu-Tack available.

Practice Questions and AI-Generated Exams
Completing practice questions and using AI tools to generate additional exam-style questions helps students build confidence and identify areas requiring further revision.

Flash Cards
Flash cards are an excellent active recall strategy, helping students strengthen memory and improve retention of important content.

The "Dump Method"
Students can practise quickly writing down formulas, definitions, or key ideas onto scrap paper at the beginning of an exam to reduce cognitive load and improve recall.

The Hour of Power
A focused hour of study with no distractions, dedicated to one specific goal, can often be more effective than several hours of unfocused revision. Help students schedule time for this and provide a reward for completing a dedicated Hour of Power.

Lifestyle Habits that Support Learning
Healthy Sleep Habits
Consistent sleep routines are essential, as quality sleep supports memory consolidation, concentration, and overall wellbeing. Help them develop some good routines for sleep.

Healthy Diet
Regular meals, plenty of water, and nutritious foods provide the energy and focus students need throughout the examination period. Engage them in planning their favourite healthy meals for the week.

Caffeine Before Exams
While moderate caffeine may improve alertness for some students, it should be used carefully and avoided in excessive amounts, as it can increase anxiety and disrupt concentration.

As a school, we encourage students to maintain balance, stay organised, and seek support when needed. With consistent preparation, healthy routines, and a positive mindset, our students can approach their exams with confidence and resilience. We wish all Year 11 and 12 students every success in their upcoming examinations.

On Tuesday, 1st September, our Year 10 Legal Studies students had the opportunity to visit the Brisbane courts. They were fortunate to observe a sentencing hearing from start to finish, providing valuable insight into what happens inside a courtroom and how the different participants contribute to the administration of justice.

The experience showed that sentencing involves balancing a range of important considerations. Students saw firsthand how the Crown Prosecution and Defence presented their respective positions, while the Judge carefully considered the circumstances of the offence, the impact on victims and the community, community safety, and opportunities for rehabilitation.

Seeing this process unfold in a real courtroom helped students connect the concepts they have been studying in the classroom with the practical operation of Australia's justice system. It was a valuable and engaging experience that gave students a much greater appreciation of the complexity involved in achieving justice.

Our Science laboratories came alive during National Science Week, with more than 120 student visits across a week of hands-on lunchtime activities.

Students had the opportunity to explore a wide range of scientific ideas through practical activities. They grew seed crystals, germinated seeds and investigated plant transport and nutrition, experimented with chromatography and acids and bases, explored hydrophobicity in dandelions, and made Cartesian divers. The week culminated on Friday with a particularly popular activity – making ice cream using science!

It was wonderful to see so many students choosing to spend their lunchtimes in the laboratories, with many returning throughout the week to take part in different activities. The enthusiasm, curiosity and willingness of students to experiment made for a fantastic atmosphere.

National Science Week was a real team effort. Our dedicated Laboratory Technicians prepared the many experiments and generously gave up their lunchtime throughout the week. Science staff also gave their time to support the activities and ensure each session ran smoothly, alongside our five Science Ambassadors, who did a fantastic job assisting students during the sessions.

A huge thank you to our entire Science team and Science Ambassadors for creating such an engaging week of activities and providing our students with another opportunity to discover just how much fun science can be.

LORDS’ Most Successful AGCC Season Yet!

LORDS has just wrapped up our most successful AGCC season yet, taking home two Championships:

Junior Boys A Division OzTag
Intermediate Girls A Division Basketball

While there are many different ways to measure sporting success, you can’t argue that it’s pretty nice to win a championship! 

And the numbers tell an even bigger story – 15 of our 18 teams finished in the top four: 4 competed for the Championship, 11 played off for 3rd/4th, and just 3 played off for 5th/6th. A significant improvement on Season 1.

Congratulations to both of our CHAMPIONSHIP-WINNING teams and their coaches:

Junior Boys OzTag – Mrs Zipf & Mr Gollan

A huge thank you also to Dan and his coaches from Gecko Sports, who provided expert coaching support for both teams throughout the season and during the playoffs.

Interestingly, training attendance for both championship teams was among the highest across all our AGCC sports, alongside our Junior Girls Soccer team – a great reflection of their commitment and, as research consistently suggests, an important predictor of team success.

Congratulations also to our Intermediate B Division Boys European Handball team, who went down valiantly 12–9 to Livingstone in a fantastic Grand Final. The boys put on a great display of skill, performance and teamwork, representing LORDS with pride. Thanks to their season coach, Mr Grace.

Our Junior Girls Soccer team also had an excellent season, finishing 2nd after a 0–0 draw with Kings. As Kings had finished first following the round matches, they were awarded the championship. Thanks to Mr Lang for supporting this team at games and training, as well as the coaches from High-Performance Soccer Coaching (previously PURE Soccer) and Mrs Steinhardt for refereeing the match.

Last but not least, a huge thank you to every staff member who supported Season 2 AGCC Sport, as well as the 45 students who joined our LORDS Cheer Squad across the four venues where we had teams competing in Grand Finals.

It is this extended support and culture around our sport program that we will be looking to continue building and growing in 2027 and beyond. First stop: getting a LORDS chant locked away so we can cheer on our teams!!!!

All in all, it has been a fantastic Season 2 and a great way to finish our inter-school league for 2026. Congratulations to all our players, coaches, and teams! There sure is plenty to celebrate in Secondary Sport! 

An historic first for our U16 Girls Rugby 7s team as they took to the field for their first-ever match against a strong and experienced Groves College side.

There were plenty of positives as the girls continued to learn and improve throughout the game.

Eva L led from the front with some strong carries and great determination.

Layla C made history by scoring LORDS’ first-ever try in the Girls Rugby program, finding space on the blindside and finishing in the corner.

Lily W was outstanding with ball in hand and in defence, earning LORDS Player of the Match honours.

A great first step for the program and plenty to build on. Well done, girls!

What a fantastic first hit-out for our U14 Rugby 7s boys!

In windy conditions, the boys showed plenty of courage and potential, going down narrowly 26–22 to Groves Christian College in a great-spirited friendly fixture.

With just one player, Lucas M, having previous Rugby experience, the boys adapted brilliantly to the game. Lucas did a fantastic job providing structure and leading from the front.

Congratulations to our 13 LORDS athletes who competed for Pacific Districts at the Regional Athletics Championships at Runaway Bay last week.

There were some fantastic performances, including PBs across the team, with Huddy G progressing to the State Championships in October.

What a fantastic day on the court for our LORDS students!

Our students proudly represented LORDS at the Term 3 2026 Gold Coast School Handball Competition, joining 11 schools for a day filled with skill, competition, teamwork, and plenty of school spirit.

And what a result… LORDS finished in first place with an incredible 670 points! The second-place team scored 283 points.

It was fantastic to see our students showcasing their handball skills, challenging themselves, learning from every game and, most importantly, demonstrating great sportsmanship on the court.

Congratulations to Alfie I, Ashwyn S-Z, Charlie I, Ethan C, Harrison S, Rayden B, and William C, who competed and represented LORDS so proudly. Your effort, enthusiasm, and team spirit made us incredibly proud! Well played, Team LORDS!

On Monday 24th August, LORDS Junior School travelled to the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre (QSAC) to participate in the annual Lutheran Athletics Carnival. The carnival brings together nine Lutheran schools from across South East Queensland and provides a fantastic opportunity for students and schools to collaborate, compete and enjoy a fun day of athletics.

For many of our students, it was their first time competing on a proper athletics track, making the experience even more exciting and memorable. This year was also a significant milestone for LORDS, as we competed in Division 1 for the first time, following our outstanding results in 2025.

LORDS had a fantastic day, finishing as the Division 1 Percentage Trophy winners.

This is a tremendous achievement and highlights the strength of our students' participation, effort, and performances across the carnival.

There were many standout performances throughout the day, with numerous LORDS students earning ribbons for finishing in the top three in their events. It was fantastic to see our students representing the school with enthusiasm, determination and pride.

Overall, it was an outstanding day for LORDS, and we are incredibly proud of the way our students competed, supported one another, and represented our school. Well done to all students who participated!

With the school holidays coming up, we’re running a School Holiday Program at Beenleigh Buffaloes JAFC on Thursday 24th September, and we’d love to welcome along any students from LORDS who might be keen for a full day of footy fun!

We’ll have both a Mixed Camp and an All Girls Camp running on the day, with plenty of games, activities and footy throughout the day.

Recently, our Year 10 and 11 Visual Art classes visited the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) and the Queensland Art Gallery (QAG) in South Brisbane, drawing inspiration from award-winning artworks featured in Creative Generation 2026, showcasing the creative talents of Year 12 students across Queensland.

They viewed these alongside iconic works from around the world spanning the early 16th century to the present day, from Dutch still life to contemporary art.

Students dived deep into the art world, immersing themselves in reading and interpreting artists' messages across different centuries.

The excursion gave students insight into the diverse media, materials, and techniques that artists use to give voice to their thoughts, feelings, and concerns.

From Old Masters to modern-day creators, students took the essence of what they saw and reflected it in their own practice, a valuable step in developing their artistic voice and aesthetic standard.

On Saturday 22nd August, our Concert Band students participated in an exciting and productive Day Camp. Students took part in dedicated sessions for Year 5 Concert Band, Year 6 Concert Band and Sapphire Concert Band, allowing each ensemble to focus on developing their individual skills and repertoire.

The sessions provided a valuable opportunity for students to work closely with their fellow band members, strengthen their ensemble skills, and build confidence in their performances. Throughout the day, students engaged in focused rehearsals while also enjoying the opportunity to connect and collaborate with other musicians in their respective ensembles.

It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm and commitment displayed by all students, and we look forward to seeing their continued growth throughout the remainder of the year.

School Office

Our office hours are between 8.00am – 4.00pm, Monday to Friday with the exception of Public Holidays.

Tuckshop

Our Tuckshop on Wheels operates for morning tea and lunch on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Orders are to be placed online via Flexischools prior to 8.15 am each day. Students from Years 7 - 12 and staff may purchase over the counter with cash or eftpos at break times. We do not allow Junior School students to purchase items over the counter. All Junior School orders must be placed using Flexischools.

Reminder: No Nuts or Nut Products at School

A reminder to all families that our school is a nut-free environment to protect students with severe anaphylactic allergies. We ask that no nuts or nut-based products (including items like Nutella or peanut butter) be brought to school in lunchboxes, snacks, or for sharing during special events.

This applies to all year levels from Kindergarten to Year 12, and includes all school events, excursions, and activities.

Please note that while we aim to be nut-free, some pre-packaged items may contain traces of nuts as stated by manufacturers. We encourage parents to check labels carefully and choose safe alternatives.

Train track closures during September and October.

There will be major track closures and travel changes on the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines during the spring school holidays, with work on multiple rail projects happening from Saturday 19th September to Sunday 11th October.

Some impacts will continue into the first week of Term 4, with railbuses replacing trains between Banoon and Boggo Road stations from Tuesday 6th to Sunday 11th October.

If you or your child usually catch the train, please plan and allow extra travel time.
